Le Labo Santal 33 Reviews:
It’s time to Take all the excitement away, and discuss Le Labo’s Versatile fragrance and Enchanting aroma.
Have you ever wondered how New York smells?
Unknown to them, niche retailer Le Labo was going to produce and launch the aroma that would go on to become the essence of New York.
33 is a symbol for the amount of elements in the fragrance, and the word “SANTAL” means sandalwood. Sandalwood and cedarwood are the primary elements that predominate in Le Labo Santal 33 perfume, which is highly woody and slightly spicy.
- The olfactory notes of Le Labo are sandalwood, cedarwood, leather, papyrus, cardamom, violet, iris, and amber; however, the notes pyramid has never been revealed.
- Soon after the first spray, you can already detect the wood’s sawdust-like aroma blending with a hint of spice from the cardamom.
I wouldn’t characterize this as either warm or fresh scent, in my opinion; instead, the woods kind of block that vibe and allow the opening to go versatile in a lot of other directions.
Santal 33 Cologne Presentation:
The packaging for Le Labo Santal 33 exudes simplicity and skill. The scent comes in a textured, off-white cardboard packaging that is rather robust. The front of the item is embossed with the brand’s emblem and scent name, with extra information printed on the sides and rear. The fact that the box is composed of recycled paper is something that will appeal to everyone.
The transparent rectangular glass bottle design of Santal 33 perfume is elegant and simplistic, emphasizing the contents within. The bottle has a sophisticated yet straightforward appearance thanks to its sharp edges and clear lines. It has a cylindrical metal cap on top to give it a refined appearance. The label keeps things simple overall, showcasing the Le Labo emblem and scent name in black lettering on white paper.

Santal 33 Notes:
Top notes include violet accord, cardamom, cedarwood, papyrus.
Ambroxan, iris, ambrox. in the middle.
cedarwood, leather, sandalwood form the base.
Sandalwood and cedarwood are the primary elements that predominate in Le Labo Santal 33 perfume, which is highly woody and slightly spicy.
Soon after the first spray, you can already detect the wood’s sawdust-like aroma blending with a hint of spice from the cardamom.
I wouldn’t characterize this as either warm or fresh spice, in my opinion; instead, the woods kind of block that vibe and allow the opening to go in a lot of other places.
Interestingly, some claim that the aromas of pickles and cucumbers are mainly… Eastern European!
Although the introduction doesn’t appeal to me or remind me of anything comparable, if you’re one of those people, please let me know in the comments what exactly makes you take the hint!
The heart and base begin to unfurl once the opening is complete, giving the entire perfume a woodsy, solid quality.
You would think that sandalwood would be the primary note because the word “santal” means “sandalwood,” but that’s precisely what divides opinion about this scent. Some perceive sandalwood as the predominant scent, while others are dominated by cedarwood.
The distinction is actually rather noticeable: sandalwood adds a creamy, subtly sweet undertone to the mix, while cedarwood adds a dry, peppery, and smokey tone.
Stating that although the aroma is rich and creamy to some, it appears dry and woodsy to others.
I think the tones are more prosperous and creamier, but to be honest, there are moments when I notice both dryness and richness.
It is definitely a woodsy aroma, but what makes it so intriguing is how distinct the blend is from other scents and how it responds to various skin types, climates, and situations.
Santal Le Labo 33 Performance:
Have the 2016 and 2018 perfumes of this famous perfumer, which I compared to a 2021 batch in terms of performance and reformulation. Regrettably, I can detect some differences in those areas. Firstly, the original Le Labo Santal 33 Eau De Parfum green essence has been somewhat subdued; although some fans disliked this green, amplified opening, the sillage no longer has the same appeal. Secondly, the smell is essentially the same in terms of the powdery and woody aspects.
Thirdly, the new formulation performs much better than the original, which was a beast in the performance category. However, the new formula has a more subtle and refined scent compared to the original.
Overall, while the new formulation of Le Labo Santal 33 may not have the same powerful projection as its predecessor, it still maintains a refined and sophisticated scent that is sure to please fans of the original. Additionally, the improved performance of the new formula ensures that it will last longer on the skin, making it a more practical choice for everyday wear.
Santal 33 perfume has its devotees who praise its creamy sandalwood and the greenness of the scent, calling it beautiful or meditative, despite the different overtones that people perceived. All in all, though, opinions of Santal 33 and its scent are highly divided. Completely nonexistent. All that can be said is that many users on Fragrantica seem to detest Santal Perfume, and most commentators seem to smell like pickles, cucumbers, or cedar hamster cage bedding.
